Johnny Eager (US Import MOD BLU-RAY) Coming to Our Shelves December 2026
MGM's sleek and sizzling proto-noir masterwork matches the studio's leading man heartthrob with its top-tier glamour icon for a walk down a very dark, extremely dangerous street. Robert Taylor IS Johnny Eager, a cold-blooded racketeer recently paroled from the state penitentiary. To his gullible parole officer, Johnny's an honest, reformed citizen humbly driving a taxicab for a living. In reality lies a ruthless mastermind pulling the strings of a massive, illicit gambling syndicate and scheming to open a lucrative dog-racing track. When innocent, high-society sociology student Lisbeth Bard (Lana Turner) falls blindly under Johnny's magnetic spell, the criminal kingpin sees the ultimate leverage. Lisbeth happens to be the cherished stepdaughter of District Attorney John Benson Farrell, (played with gusto by Edward Arnold), Johnny's long-time nemesis and the very man who put him behind bars. The stakes are raised higher when Johnny plans to blackmail Farrell, using his own daughter as a pawn. But as explosive romantic sparks ignite between the underworld king and the debutante, Johnny's frozen heart threatens to pull down his entire empire. Brilliantly directed with hard-boiled style by Mervyn LeRoy and co-starring Van Heflin in a tour-de-force, Oscar®-winning performance as Johnny's tragically brilliant, alcoholic philosopher-partner and pickled conscience— the film stands tall as a gripping, lightning-paced golden-age crime melodrama.
